Fern Orie Named Interim CEO of WIEDC

The Wisconsin Indigenous Economic Development Corporation (WIEDC) has recently announced that Fern Orie will join the organization as the interim CEO.

The WIEDC is integral for Native people across the state of Wisconsin, as the group focuses on “building financial sovereignty in Wisconsin’s Native communities.” The financial sovereignty movement for Native people has steadily been gaining traction, as many tribes have suffered intense economic hardships since the pandemic.

Therefore, the WIEDC sees Fern Orie as a crucial piece of the puzzle to finding solutions for Native communities. “Fern’s experience and knowledge are invaluable as we move forward,” Pamela Boivin, Chairwomen of WIEDC, praised.

Orie being named interim CEO of the WIEDC is another addition to a resume that revolves around supporting and uplifting Native people.

On top of working part-time with the WIEDC, Orie is also the CEO of The Matriarch Group. And prior to funding the previously mentioned non-profit, Orie utilized her talents at Oweesta Corporation, founding the Wisconsin Native Loan Fund. The Wisconsin Native Loan Fund supports renovations for distressed homes for people in need.

Needless to say, adding Fern Orie to the WIEDC is exciting news that will bring positive changes to Native American communities across Wisconsin!
