N. Scott Momaday

Navarre Scott Momaday is a member of the Kiowa tribe best known for his novels, short stories, essays, and poems. Born in Oklahoma, Momaday was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (1969) for his book "House Made of Dawn." In addition to 20 honorary degrees from colleges and universities, Momaday has also received the National Medal of Arts (2007) for preserving Native American oral and art traditions. Many scholars consider Momaday's work the start of the Native American Renaissance.
